As a sign of returning to coachbuilding, Rolls Royce Boat Tail was revealed.

On Wednesday, the British automaker of ultra-luxury vehicles made an announcement of the new Rolls-Royce Coachbuilding division.

If you can vividly remember the Rolls-Royce Sweptail, it was the most expensive new car built at its reveal in 2017.

But to the permanent return to coachbuilding, the Sweptail was just a warm-up.

Rolls Royce Boat Tail

The Boat Tail was shown off as the latest in its line of coach-built cars and also an example of what is just possible as its coachbuilding division on Thursday.

R400 Million Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Revealed As Most Expensive New Car In The World

Rumors took it around by saying that the Sweptail cost 10 million British pounds which is approximately $14.6 million. But this Boat Tail is rumored to have cost even more in terms of expenditure.

Though the Boat Tail won’t be a true one-off, unlike the Sweptail. Rolls Royce’s plan is to build three of them for three distinct (separate) customers.

After the Automaker revealed the Sweptail, the three customers came and requested a nautical-themed creation.

The inspiration for the Boat Tail is said to come from the J-Class yachts which are popular in racing.

No technical details have been provided by Rolls Royce so far.

Though one thing that we do know is that the Boat Tail is based on the aluminum space-frame platform which was debuted in the latest phantom and also made its way into the Ghost and Cullinan.

Instead of a typical unibody structure, a space frame was used which means that unique bodies can be created.

Crafting of The Car

The crafting of the car’s body begins with a clay model whose design is then being transferred to a buck on which aluminum body panels are later hammer-formed by hand.

This shows that traditional methods are being used wherever possible.

The design measures about 228 inches in length, thus making the Boat Tail pretty much longer than any other car on the road.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Revives The Art Of Coachbuilding

The rear section of the car takes up most of the car’s length, in particular, that’s where most of the nautical references can be found.

The automaker used a real-wood deck as a nod to Boat Tails built early last century. The two halves of the deck flip open at the press of a button.

This will thereby reveal what Rolls Royce refers to as a hosting suite. Although, this is just a chest filled with items to add just a little glamour when having a roadside picnic.

Things just like a champagne flute, refrigerator, sunshade, and refresher towels.
