A caravan is a vehicle without an engine that can be pulled by a car or van. It is equipped with utilities like a bed, small kitchen with cooking equipment’s, etc. We are going to be looking at 6 easy steps of restoring a caravan. All it takes is a little time and effort with good decorations.
Step 1: Access the Caravan
Before you begin restoring your caravan, the first thing to do is taking a step back to access it. Make a list of things that are faulty. The following are things to watch out for when accessing a caravan:
- Damaged doors and cabinets
- Bathroom
- Holes pierced through the walls of the caravan
- Cracked floor
- Gas installation in bad condition
- Electrical installation
Step 2: Empty the Caravan
The next step is taking all items inside the caravan outside. Let there be a complete evacuation of all items inside the caravan. Why?
This allows you to properly access your caravan and also know where to start to take action. Remove the furniture, bed, kitchen cabinets, etc.
Carpet or rug on the floor should also be removed. After this, we move on to the next step.
Step 3: Make a Plan
At this stage, you take down all you have observed in the first two steps and draft out a plan on the things you would be need to restore the caravan. Take measurements of things you would likely purchase in the store.
Step 4: List of Purchases
Restoring a caravan can be most times quite expensive. From research the minimum cost to restore a caravan is 1000 euros, depending on its condition.
If there isn’t much for you to restore, you might spend quite less than that amount, but assuming your caravan is in a very bad shape, here are the list of things you would probably need to buy:
- Polyurethane for walls
- Floor filler and carpets
- Paint
- Rollers and brushes
- Wooden and laminated floor
- Styrofoam
- Wooden slats
- LED lights, sockets
- Mirrors
- Solar panels
Step 5: Interior Decorations
You have probably bought everything you need at this stage, now is time to start with restoring the interior part of your caravan.
You would need to work on the walls of your caravan, improving the floors by replacing the marine board, and fixing a new carpet.
There would also have to be bathroom renovations, kitchen renovation and the electrical systems.
Step 6: Exterior Decorations
Finally we move on to painting the exterior of the caravan. Yes, the exterior part of the caravan is just as important as the interior part.
We make use of what is called an eccentric sander to sand the exterior walls of the caravan. Paint the exterior walls of the caravan.
You can decide to do this yourself or hire a professional car painter to do it for you. If you decided to DIY, do check the internet for images that could give you some insight as to what colors to use.
