Radiator hose replacement is quite simple. The radiator is in charge of the cooling system of the automobile. It is a carefully designed mechanism that ensures that the engine’s temperature level does not spike over the required limit. As such the radiator hose is built to carry hot and cold water to and fro the engine.
Procedure To Replace Radiator Hose
Replacing your hose is a simple process that you can accomplish on your own. Using the following steps.
First of all, park on steady ground space. It is switched to the park or neutral.
- Open the cover of the radiator or coolant reservoir
- Place a drain pan beneath the radiator valve. Typically a bucket that can hold up to two gallons of water.
- Open the radiator drain valve.
- Allow the coolant to drain into the bucket completely.
- Then remove the clamps at both ends of the radiator hose.
The clamps are mostly small iron rings with a tiny handle to control the size. Expand the size and shift up the hose. Note that depending on the make of your car the clamp might be different but it is easy to figure out anyway.
- Then remove the radiator hose, Rotate the hose from left to right to take it out.
- After removing the hose, you clean the fittings in preparation for the new hose.
- Install the new hose.
Attach and clamp one end before the other end. Then double-check if the hose will interfere with other moving parts of the engine such as the fan. Also, ensure that the clamps are tightly fixed by giving the radiator hose a little pull.
- If the previous coolant you drained is still clean, Then you can pour it back into the system. Else refill with another 50/50 mixture of fresh coolant and water.
- Now you can dispose of old items.
- Start the car
Then wait for the radiator hose to get hot. If it gets hot, it means that the thermostat is on.
- Top up the radiator to the required level
- Now replace the radiator cover.
Now that it is all done, check if there is leakage around the clamp and on the surface of the radiator hose.
